There are many classes of racing in Reno. They are known by the type of aircraft taking part; such as International Formula 1, Biplane, T-6, Sport, Jet or The Unlimiteds. Each has its own set of rules and its own course to race on. The performance of each class varies widely, as do its limits and innovations.
Early in the week, racers are doing practice laps and qualifying runs for their placement in the upcoming races. Depending on the number of racers entered into each class, as many heats as are needed are figured into the week’s schedule. Each class has a pilot’s briefing before every race, to ensure communication and safety between the racers.
